Supply chain sector helps Skillweb achieve record year
Significant growth within the supply chain sector has contributed to another record year during 2012 for mobile computing specialist Skillweb. The company processed more than 600 million transactions via its Houndit Enterprise item tracking solution, representing a 94 per cent per cent increase on the previous 12 months, with a 54 per cent growth handled on behalf leading UK based logistics operators.
In particular, Skillweb experienced strong growth in the home delivery sector in the run up to Christmas, with more than 100 million transactions processed as a result of handling more than 16 million items. In fact, daily delivery volumes during the month of December were almost 50 per cent higher than average non-peak trading periods.
Skillweb has also supported the increases with the introduction of a number of new applications for its Houndit Enterprise item tracking solution that are designed to help operators better manage the movement of goods to reduce costs and enhance service levels. This included a reverse logistics tool developed to provide full traceability of all collected items throughout the returns process and a real-time planning tool to enable operators to reduce the time required to schedule and manage time-definite and same-day deliveries.
Skillweb has also achieved impressive levels of service, significantly above the industry norm of 99 to 99.5 percent, delivering average systems up time of 99.999 per cent across our customer base. This has resulted in lower support call volumes and users only contacting the company's help desk on average less than once every six years.
Paul Ridden, Managing Director of Skillweb, commented: "There is continuing demand for effective tracking solutions that deliver significant business and operational benefits. We are the only company within the marketplace to offer a truly end-to-end mobile computing system that combines real-time capture of critical data with sophisticated reporting and analysis.
We are working closely with our customers to develop leading edge tracking solutions that enable them to access meaningful business intelligence to help optimise the supply chain and make better-informed management decisions. To best service these requirements we have invested heavily in our internal resources over the past 12 months to expand our team by 25 per cent."
