Leading security systems provider Acctive Systems Ltd has warned Jewellers to review their CCTV positions following the Graff Gems Robbery. The £40 million raid on Graff Diamonds, the Mayfair Jewellers, earlier this month, is thought to be the biggest ever gems heist in the UK.

Sean Goodman, Managing Director at Acctive Systems said:
"The Graff Jewellery robbery is a typical case of poorly sighted camera position. What is the cameras fundamental objective? To view an area of potential dispute/incident, the pictures released by the police showed a typical 'top of the head shot'."

When having a CCTV system installed its vital to consider the end result i.e. playback/review. So with this in mind why do people insist on having cameras high up? So they do not get attacked or because they are out of the way and do not spoil the décor?

Every jewellery shop should have a camera looking directly out of the shop window and entrance door to record facial images. The "Graff" robbery was typical in that it was rehearsed, almost all of these type of robberies are rehearsed one way or another, whether it be by a quick look into the window to see the amount of potential, or by a visit inside to browse one or two days before the attack.

There should not be a high-value shop owner who does not heed this advice and move their cameras to better positions.
