William Tracey Group help Turn Food Waste into Energy at Glasgow Hotel
Leading recycling business the William Tracey Group has partnered with luxury five star hotel, Radisson Blu Glasgow, to deliver the hotels next major step in achieving Zero Waste- recycling food waste into electricity!
The new project, which will see all food waste from the Radisson Blu being recycled and converted to renewable energy is the latest in a number of environmental initiatives implemented at the Radisson Blu as part of their ambition to be Glasgow's leading eco-friendly hotel.
The William Tracey Group, which runs recycling and waste operations around the city and across Scotland is now offering customers the chance to recycle food waste through the process of Anaerobic Digestion which treats this waste in a Biogas process to produce renewable energy and organic fertilizer- a much cleaner, cheaper and environmentally friendly alternative to landfill.
Radisson Blu has been the first city centre hotel to adopt this new service complementing their sophisticated 'Responsible Business Strategy' which has been in place since 2002.
Bobby Gavin of the William Tracey Group said of the partnership:
"When we started working with the team at the hotel, there were already many recycling initiatives in place but we have been able to take them that step further by providing a bespoke plan and they are now achieving recycling rates of around 67% compared to 40% the previous year. Like ourselves, the hotel has received a number of accolades for their commitment to the environment and we wish them the best of luck with their short-listing for this year's VIBES Awards."
The initiatives which are driven by hotel General Manager, Graeme Gibson, are not always easy to implement but despite the challenges they face daily, the benefits they have experienced make it worthwhile:
Graeme Gibson comments; "The hotel team is very excited about our latest figures in terms of recycling scores. We are proud to say that every employee understands and supports the responsible business initiative, from recycling of cardboard and paper, to food waste management, water management and carbon efficiency. Our partnership with the William Tracey Group has driven forward the improvements in our recycling program. The support and constant feedback from their team is crucial to our business and they are flexible in terms of catering for our needs and challenges."
"In addition to our new recycling plan, reporting carried out for the first quarter of 2010 has shown savings of 32.3% in water costs, 6% in electricity and 35.5% in gas and we are dedicated to using local suppliers such as Matthew Algie who supply the hotel with high quality coffee and are also customers of the William Tracey Group, committed to environmental improvement."
