Lights, Camera..., Recycle..!!

As the Green Film Festival kicked off at the weekend, one of Glasgow's' most iconic institutions, The Glasgow Film Theatre, has become the latest convert to Scotland's drive towards Zero Waste & Sustainable Energy by converting its waste food into green energy.

The service, provided by The William Tracey Group, will take the leftovers and convert them into electricity (and ultimately fertiliser) at the UK's largest Anaerobic Digestion plant at Barkip.
Bobby Gavin, the Organics Recycling Manager for The William Tracey Group, is delighted to welcome the GFT on board. "It's important to get the message out there that, as of now, there is no such thing as waste food, instead we have a resource which can help meet Scotland's renewable energy targets. And it's great to see forward thinking companies such as GFT leading the way in this new and exciting part of the recycling revolution".

That's a sentiment echoed by Rachael Loughlan of The Glasgow Film Theatre "The GFT are committed to establishing and maintaining environmental practices in all areas of business, including waste. Scotland is at the forefront of initiatives in this area, and we're excited to be part of this and the unique renewable energy practices employed by The William Tracey Group. This is only the beginning of our journey towards zero waste."

The Barkip facility is being constructed by Scottish & Southern Energy Generation Limited on a William Tracey Group site. With a 75,000 ton capacity the plant will be the largest Anaerobic Digestion plant in the UK, and represents Zero Waste Scotland's largest investment to date in this technology.
