University of Glasgow has chosen Intelligent Telematics to provide a 3G vehicle camera solution for its fleet operation to target insurance savings and encourage responsible driving. Intelligent Telematics’ industry-leading IT1000 device will initially be installed on 25 vans before being rolled out across a further 87 fleet vehicles made up predominantly of cars and minibuses.
The University selected the IT1000 cameras following a detailed review of 3G and SD card devices in the marketplace. “The IT1000 is clearly the standout solution that provides us with the complete package that meets our precise fleet requirements,” explained Ronald Ford, Transport Services Manager at University of Glasgow. “Over the past 12 months we have road-tested five other vehicle cameras, but all demonstrated one issue or another in terms of video quality, poor GPS or inadequate connectivity.”
The IT1000 will be used to capture video evidence to prove liability in the event of a collision involving one of the fleet vehicles. This will help not only reduce insurance premiums moving forward, but also speed up the claims process to reduce the administrative burden on the University’s internal resources. Previously, disputes have become incredibly time consuming, even when only a minor bump or scrape, so the 3G cameras will now allow the office-based transport team to determine fault within minutes of an incident occurring.
Meanwhile, the transport team will monitor video footage to ensure vehicles are being driven responsibly in line with the University of Glasgow’s safety and duty of care commitment. With an approved driving register of more than 1,000 members of staff and students, the 3G vehicle camera solution will be used to investigate all collisions and review the status of those involved. This will enable the University to better manage the authorisation process and encourage improved driver behaviour.
Justin White, Managing Director at Intelligent Telematics commented: “The IT1000 is the only 3G camera to carry the E1 mark of approval for the aftermarket installation to European manufactured vehicles. Manufactured in Germany and using O2 Telefonica SIM cards, the device possesses the highest available levels of reliability, HD video and 3G connectivity. Our unrivalled commitment to quality is making Intelligent Telematics the partner of choice for a growing number of vehicle operators in the UK, mainland Europe and worldwide.”
Intelligent Telematics’ IT1000 is the most sophisticated 3G vehicle camera solution currently available with unrivalled accuracy and technology. The forward-facing device transmits footage of accidents and near misses via a secure 3G private network supported by Telefonica/02 to a web-based interface with live email and SMS alerts, so a triggered event can be viewed almost immediately.
