Checkprint Helps Northern Gas Networks Remain Secure and Compliant
Published 13 January 2014

Northern Gas Networks, the company responsible for distributing gas to homes and businesses across the north of England, turned to Checkprint when a company-wide software upgrade left them unable to print cheques in an acceptable format.

The company risked financial penalties under Ofgem regulations if they had been unable to settle compensation claims within specified time limits, and were determined not to let customers and suppliers down. Checkprint Limited, a member of the TALL Group of Companies, provided a review of the situation, which identified over 20 problems that would prevent the cheques from clearing.

The team then made the alterations needed to make the cheques secure and compliant, including changes to the layout and the testing of code lines. In addition Checkprint recommended adjustments to Northern Gas Networks’ cheque infilling software to incorporate these amendments.

The cheques were then printed and delivered to Northern Gas Networks in less than 24 hours to ensure that they could continue to meet customer service levels. Martin Ruda, Managing Director of the TALL Group of Companies commented, “We have worked with Northern Gas Networks for several years, providing a Bacs solution and were happy to use our expertise to help them out.”

Stephanie Exley, Purchase to Pay Manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “Quite simply Checkprint came to the rescue and helped us to honour our commitments to our customers and suppliers. I would advise other businesses who are going through a similar IT upgrade to look at how it might affect all areas of the business.”
