Arvia Technology scoops IET Innovation Award

Sustainability prize marks another big win for Arvia in 2009
Published 07 December 2009

Arvia® Technology continue their award winning streak by scooping the 'Sustainability Innovation Award' at the Institution of Engineering and Technology's (IET) Innovation Awards 2009 on Wednesday 25th November, at Lord's Cricket Ground, London.
2009 has been a highly successful year for Arvia who have already won the Institution of Engineering and Technology's (IET) North West Innovation Award, and have been named as a Global Cleantech 100 company.
The IET Sustainability Innovation Award category is the most all-encompassing of all of the Engineering Awards. It is open to any and all in the fields of engineering, science and technology that demonstrate a contribution to sustainability.

The IET Innovation Awards span 15 categories and attracted over 300 entries from around the world. They represent a unique opportunity for innovators to be recognised and provide a showcase for the brightest ideas, highlighting the importance of innovation by celebrating its application across a range of engineering disciplines.
Arvia Technology received the award on the basis of its innovative technology which offers a low carbon, chemical and waste free process for the onsite treatment of water and waste water, particularly focused on groundwater remediation and industrial water treatment.

This is achieved through capturing organic pollutants using Nyex® (Arvia's patented renewable adsorption material), and then destroying them by applying a low-power electric current.
By creating a process that completes both the removal and regeneration in one unit, Arvia has not only achieved an innovation first, but also developed a water treatment method that is up to 90% more cost effective than conventional techniques.

Arvia's CEO Martin Keighley said: "This really has been a tremendous year for Arvia; it's such an honour to win the IET sustainability award, especially having already received a regional IET award, and being recognised as a Global Cleantech 100 company. The recognition our technology has received this year all points to a very bright future for Arvia Technology."Nigel Fine, IET Chief Executive, said, "I would like to congratulate all the winning and shortlisted entries in this year's IET Innovation Awards, which demonstrate genuine innovation and represent significant technological advances."The entries which made it into the shortlist are a very impressive role call of innovation and although it may be a cliché to say 'everyone is a winner' in this case I am sure it is true. The awards highlight the depth and breadth of innovative work which is being carried out and it is clear from the range of entries that innovation is alive and well."
