  • PAG 100: A medium-viscosity oil suitable for a broad range of vehicles, often used in mid-sized systems.

Adding PAG oil to an automotive A/C system isn’t as simple as pouring it in. The correct type and quantity must be used, typically based on the vehicle manufacturer’s specifications. PAG oil, though not classified as highly toxic or hazardous, should still be handled responsibly. Improper disposal can contaminate soil and waterways. Most automotive service centers have protocols for disposing or recycling used oil, including PAG types.

With the increasing emphasis on environmentally friendly refrigerants, such as R-1234yf, which has a much lower global warming potential (GWP) than R-134a, the lubricants that accompany these systems are also evolving. PAG oil remains compatible with R-1234yf, though some systems may require specially formulated low-hygroscopic variants to reduce moisture-related issues.
