Namibia Industrial Gases Market to Reach USD 33.8 Million by 2032, Vyansa Intelligence Highlights Mining, Hydrogen, and Specialty Gas Demand
Vyansa Intelligence has released an in-depth market research analysis on the Namibia industrial gases market, which is projected to expand at a CAGR of 5.8% during 2026–2032, supported by mining activity, mineral processing, offshore petroleum appraisal, healthcare requirements, local gas distribution, green hydrogen projects, and emerging green-iron applications. Industrial gas suppliers are increasingly serving mining, fabrication, healthcare, energy, construction, and marine operations, while hydrogen-based projects are creating new demand channels for production, storage, handling, and technical services across Namibia.
Oxygen leads the Namibia industrial gases market with approximately a 39% share, supported by mining and mineral processing, fabrication, cutting, welding, healthcare, and other recurring applications. Its broad usage across packaged and bulk supply models provides stronger demand coverage than other gas types, while hydrogen is gaining momentum from green-energy and industrial projects.

Key Market Dynamics
Mining and Mineral Processing Accelerate Industrial Gas Demand
Namibia’s mining-intensive economy is sustaining broad demand for industrial gases across mineral processing and related operations. Mining and quarrying contributed approximately 13.3% of Namibia’s GDP in 2024, while mineral products accounted for around 61% of merchandise exports. Uranium production reached 1,832 tonnes of U₃O₈ in 2025, strengthening demand for oxygen, nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, and specialty gases. These gases support combustion, processing, cutting, welding, maintenance, and other activities across mining facilities. Continued mineral production and processing investment are expected to maintain strong recurring gas consumption. Mining therefore remains the largest end-user base for Namibia’s industrial gases market.
Hydrogen and Offshore Activities Expand New Demand Channels
Emerging energy projects are broadening Namibia’s industrial gas demand beyond established mining applications. HyIron’s Oshivela facility began producing green hydrogen in March 2025 using a 12 MW electrolyzer, targeting 15,000 tonnes of direct-reduced iron annually in its initial phase. Cleanergy’s Walvis Bay facility uses a 5 MW electrolyzer, while the planned Hyphen project includes 1.5 GW of electrolyzer capacity in Phase I. Offshore petroleum appraisal is also increasing requirements for nitrogen, oxygen, acetylene, argon, and specialty mixtures. These projects create new applications for gas production, storage, logistics, refuelling, and technical services. Hydrogen and offshore development are therefore expected to strengthen long-term market diversification.
Key Market Challenge
Import Dependence and Long-Distance Logistics Raise Delivered Costs
Dependence on imported cryogenic gases and long-distance distribution increases delivered costs across Namibia. Dispersed demand centres make bulk transport, cylinder rotation, storage, and refill economics challenging, particularly for customers located far from major depots. Smaller users may face additional handling, rental, and delivery expenses, while suppliers must maintain inventory against transport delays. In 2024, the EpiC project and Clinton Health Access Initiative reported that liquid oxygen used in Namibia was imported from South Africa, contributing to high delivery and distribution costs. The assessment also identified costly tank refills, equipment rentals, cylinder disruptions, and uneven oxygen infrastructure. These logistics constraints can pressure margins, delay replenishment, and favour larger suppliers with established distribution networks.
