Total Glass supplies energy-efficient windows and doors for award-winning GGHT regeneration project

Total Glass has supplied energy-efficient ‘A’-rated PVC-U windows, high-security communal entrance doors and FD30s fire composite internal doors for Golden Gates Housing Trust’s (GGHT) award-winning regeneration scheme in Warrington.

Working in partnership with main contractor Willmott Dixon and John McCall Architects, the Liverpool-based fenestration specialist manufactured 373 Secured by Design-accredited windows in Grey on White profile for five multi-storey blocks of flats on Alder Lane, near the town centre.

Incorporating state-of-the-art energy-saving products, the multi-million pound Alder Green development won the Most Innovative Refurbishment/Regeneration Project at the prestigious 2015 Housing Innovation Awards.

This award celebrates housing schemes that have been transformed through large-scale regeneration programmes using pioneering techniques and products above and beyond what is required.

Twenty Total Glass high-security aluminium communal entrance doors, which are specially-developed for multiple occupancy residential properties, were also fitted as part of the refurbishment works. Robust, thermally-efficient and available with a choice of secure locking systems, the entrance doors enhance the external aesthetics of buildings with an option for customised glazing.

FD30s fire composite internal entrance doors for the 75 flats were also supplied, along with single balcony doors and side screens. Liaison with tenants over their choice of new front doors was also an important element of the project.

The windows and doors supplied have been to the very highest specification and have been a major factor in the scheme’s success.”

James Nicholls at John McCall Architects said the scheme has made a ‘huge impression’ on a major gateway into Warrington and improved ‘kerb appeal for the wider community’. He added: “The materials and colours were carefully chosen and play an important part in giving the buildings a new lease of life due to their clean design creating a modern and uplifting ambience.”

Other main improvements to reduce the buildings’ carbon footprint and bring them up to the highest energy-efficiency standards included external wall and loft insulation, new central heating systems and solar PV. The six-month project was completed in early 2015.

As part of wider community regeneration plans, Total Glass also supplied 32 similar PVC-U Grey on White windows and high-security communal entrance doors for two nearby multi-storey blocks owned by Warrington Borough Council.
