Total Glass 'A'-rated PVC-U windows installed in Broad Lane homes

Social housing fenestration specialist Total Glass supplied and installed 'A'-rated PVC-U windows for 74 properties on the Boot Estate, Norris Green in Liverpool, which have been saved from demolition in a £4 million renovation project.

Working with main contractor Mitie, the Liverpool-based aluminium and PVC-U window and door fabricator carried out full surveys before manufacturing the grey on white foiled finish windows in RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey for the family houses in Broad Lane and Winskill Road, which are managed by Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH).

Fabricated from the quality Profile 22 system, the new thermally-efficient windows with a 1.4 W/m².K u-value contribute to the overall energy-saving features incorporated in the refurbishment scheme. These include upgraded loft, roof and external insulation, along with the latest energy-efficient boilers and central heating systems.

Total Glass also installed triple-glazed PVC-U windows with an ultra-low 1.1 W/m².K u-value in a separate block of four homes as part of LMH's energy performance monitoring initiative. Matching extended aluminium PPC sills were also supplied due to the 110mm-thick external thermal wrap on the buildings.

Originally earmarked for demolition over a decade ago, many of the properties were virtually derelict before their complete transformation was completed in October 2012.

LMH's Project Officer Jodie Powell said residents had remarked on how the new windows have made their homes much warmer and improved the external appearance of the properties.
