Supply Chain Helps Answer the Call to Help Berkshire Children's Charity

Costain’s supply chain recently came to the aid of Just Around the Corner (JAC), a Berkshire-based children’s charity, by giving them the material it needed to complete a new equestrian centre.

Costain’s customers are increasingly demanding that Costain provides a social legacy as part of its major project delivery. So when local charity JAC needed a supplier of Geotextile for their new £350,000 office and stable facility, Costain asked its supply chain to help out.

The charity needed some geotextiles to help complete its all important access road, Keyline, part of the Travis Perkins Group, was the first to respond, supplying the permeable fabric which, when used with soil, has the ability to separate, filter, reinforce, protect and drain. 

“It was a privilege to be able to support this very worthwhile charity and to attend the launch,” said Ken Foster, Account and Business Development Manager at Keyline.

The Berkshire charity works with young people around Crowthorne, Wokingham, East Reading, Woosehill, Earley, Whitley and Woodley, on a range of issues including school, family life and relationship challenges.

The new equestrian centre will be used for the charity’s equine assisted learning programme which aims to help young people and families develop skills and self-confidence through working with horses. The site also houses an arts and craft rooms, an indoor games room and a purpose-built teaching and learning zone. The centre was recently opened by the Queen’s granddaughter and Olympic equestrian silver medallist, Zara Tindall.

Martin Orrells, Costain’s General Manager for Procurement, commended Keyline for stepping in and ensuring the charity completed its project.

 “We were delighted with the response from Keyline.  Our supply chain is vital to be able to respond appropriately to these requests and an increasingly important part of our Costain Cares commitment to stakeholders,” said Martin.
