Recofloor has named the three delighted winners of its Love2shop Promotion held throughout August to encourage more flooring companies to recycle their waste vinyl flooring.

Congratulations to Birch Distribution, Sheffield; S & D Flooring Specialists, Hull and Ashmount Flooring Supplies, London who have each won a pack of Love2shop Vouchers worth £100 in the draw.

Every flooring company raising a Recofloor collection during August and returning a minimum of either two full bulk bags or two full blue bins qualified for the prize draw. Throughout the month, a total of 37.5 tonnes in 43 collections were sent for recycling – the busiest month so far this year.

Founded by leading flooring manufacturers Polyflor and Altro to divert waste vinyl flooring from landfill, the UK’s national vinyl flooring scheme collects smooth and safety off-cuts and smooth uplifted flooring for recycling back into new products, including flooring.

Birch Distribution’s Branch Manager, Nigel Maude comments: “July and August were very busy for us because of school and college projects generating larger volumes of off-cuts. More fitters are coming on board with vinyl flooring recycling and once our new showroom is ready, we’re planning to hold a Recofloor event to generate even more awareness of the scheme.”

One of Recofloor’s newest members, S & D Flooring Specialists in Hull, is already benefiting from the ‘cost-effective’ collections. Accounts Manager Gail Andrews says: “For what it costs, it’s really good and as the waste vinyl is collected, it’s something you don’t have to worry about. It’s also good for the environment and we are doing our bit to help.”

As one of the original Recofloor members and a busy drop-off site, Ashmount Flooring is finding its vigorous promotion of the scheme is paying off.

“It’s working really well and fitters are coming in on a daily basis requesting new collection bags,” says Ron Burkett, Ashmount Flooring Managing Director. “Advertising Recofloor in our price lists, monthly flyer and in our shop has helped to grow awareness and the word soon gets round. The flooring lads love it as they have a convenient and lower-cost recycling option for their vinyl flooring waste.”

Recofloor’s Project Administrator Carla Eslava adds: “We’ve had a terrific response and thanks to everyone who has taken part. With 316 tonnes collected so far, 2015 looks set to be another bumper year!”

Recofloor has more than 650 Recofloor collectors and 64 drop-off sites across the UK and Ireland. Benefits for participants include a sustainable option for end-of-life flooring, enhanced green credentials and up to 75% savings in disposal costs. More than 2,500 tonnes of vinyl flooring has been collected since the scheme’s 2009 inception.
