ISG Wins £4.2 Million Liverpool Free School
The scheme sees ISG redevelop an underused plot of land close to Goodison Park to provide a purpose built hub for the Everton Free School, which will retain its four satellite operations across the region to ensure a network of coverage across Merseyside. In addition to refurbishing and reconfiguring an existing office building on site, ISG will construct two new steel frame structures, with one becoming the main school building and the other a sports hall.
The two-storey school building will house a variety of flexible teaching spaces and breakout areas, a gym, dance studio and multi-use sports and assembly hall, with associated changing facilities. The new build sports hall will become a joint school and community resource and will support a wide variety of sports, including badminton and five-a-side football, with significant funding derived from the Big Lottery Fund.
Refurbishment of the existing office building will involve a complete strip out and remodelling of the existing shell, including internal structural modifications to create spacious, modern teaching accommodation. Externally ISG will upgrade and repair the façade to complement the new build elements of the scheme and create a covered street to link together all the facilities.
Alan McCarthy-Wyper, managing director of ISG’s Construction business, commented: “The Everton Free School has made a major impact on the lives and outcomes of its students since its foundation just two years ago. This project will enable the school to come together on one purpose-built site that brings direct benefits to the local community it serves. I’m delighted that ISG has a key role to play in delivering facilities that will provide a long-lasting and positive legacy within the local area.”
