Jan 2018 The Nimbo, based on Segway's Robotics mobility platform, which uses the company's gearbox, motor and battery but incorporates sensors and vision systems to enable some degree of autonomy. In adapting the platform for its purposes, robotic security firm Turing Video used Intel's RealSense sensors to create a robot that can roll around autonomously collecting HD video of nefarious activity. The robot's AI is able to detect humans and recognize when suspicious events are playing out, like people fighting, for example.

Jan 2018 The Indianapolis Motor Speedway this year has green lighted automated security robots. This week, the Sharp Intellos Automated Unmanned Ground Vehicle (A-UGV) was named the official security robot of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The first A-UGV, which is about the size of a small garden tractor, is expected to arrive at the Speedway in May, just in time to work the Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500. It will work at all major events at the Speedway.

Jan 2018 The San Francisco branch of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have deployed a Knightscope K5 security robot to patrol the streets near its building. The SPCA says the sidewalks around its center in the Mission District have become a camp for the city’s homeless population, which in turn has risen the criminal incidents in the area.

Dec 2017 RoboCop, a smart policing Robot, fully made in India by a Hyderabad based start-up, was today unveiled by Jayesh Ranjan, the Principal Secretary of Telangana state Information Technology department. The robot, whose beta version was launched by H-Bots Robotics, has the ability to walk, recognize people and surroundings, take complaints, detect mobs, identify suspects and interact with the people.

Mar 2017 Yves Béhar's studio Fuseproject worked with robotics company Cobalt to create this robot security guard, designed to operate in offices and foyers, where it performs basic functions like scanning ID cards, but also uses its sensors to detect possible security threats. The makers stressed that the self-driving robot is intended to work alongside humans rather than replace them. With data gathered through its sensors and interpreted by advanced algorithms, Cobalt claims the robot will be able to detect and flag anomalies beyond what would be noticeable to a human guard.
