GRAS SOUND AND VIBRATION UK CELEBRATES FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Specialist in measurement microphones and related acoustic equipment beats first year sales target by almost 20% & secures preferred supplier contracts
Published 21 August 2015

GRAS Sound and Vibration UK Ltd (GRAS UK: 01296 681891; www.gras.co.uk), a subsidiary of Denmark-based G.R.A.S Sound and Vibration A/S and leading specialist in measurement microphones and related acoustic equipment, has completed its first year of trading with exponential growth and track record of success.

Established in July 2014, Aylesbury-based GRAS UK is celebrating a remarkable year having beaten its sales target by almost 20%. The next 12 months looks just as promising with the company already 10% ahead of an aggressive budget.

Despite its fledgling status, GRAS UK has achieved preferred supplier status with many of the country’s universities which use the advanced measurement microphones for research projects being run in conjunction with major automotive and aerospace manufacturers.

Dr Mahdi Azarpeyvand, Senior Lecturer and Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellow at Bristol University comments: “We have some 90 GRAS general purpose microphones at Bristol which are mostly being used for aerospace noise measurement applications. Despite using competitor instruments in a previous life, I believe that the quality of GRAS microphones is about as good as it gets and the customer service is truly exceptional.”

Emily Norman, GRAS UK’s Sales Manager comments: “We are delighted to be celebrating a successful first year of trading. As well as excellent products, service and support, I truly believe that our personal, professional approach has been instrumental in securing business. One year on from its creation and with the ongoing support of our Danish parent company, GRAS UK will continue to build the foundations to meet an ambitious future growth strategy.

“With noise development having a considerable effect on a motor vehicle or aircraft’s comfort and economy, our focus for the next 12 months is to aggressively target automotive and aerospace manufacturers directly. In fact, there has already been an increase in demand from the aerospace market which has been quick to recognise the reliability, accuracy and robustness of GRAS UK microphones.”

There have been several new product developments from GRAS UK recently, including the launch of a compact Flush Mount Turbulence Screen Microphone kit for improved aeroacoustic testing in wind tunnels.

GRAS UK’s simple, robust and reliable flush-mount turbulence screen microphone kit has been specially developed for accurate testing in solid walled wind tunnels in the near and far field, at low and high wind speeds.

Other equipment in GRAS UK’s aeroacoustic toolbox include surface microphones highly suited to in-flow testing of full scale objects in wind tunnels. The company’s nose cones are the result of a development project with German Dutch Wind Tunnel and offer superior in-flow noise rejection compared to existing designs.

Since it was established in 1994, G.R.A.S. has been totally dedicated to the development and manufacture of high quality measurement microphones. The company was founded by the Danish acoustics pioneer, Gunnar Rasmussen, who has been a major contributor to the world of sound and vibration with his unique ideas and designs.

From the first reproducible 1” condenser measurement microphone that enabled quality measurements and instrumentation for acoustic calibration, Gunnar’s ingenuity and foresight led to the world’s most popular acoustic sensor: the 1/2” measurement microphone.

The 1/4” and 1/8” microphones followed with outstanding dynamic and high-frequency capability that brought higher definition and transparency into impulse noise diagnostics. Many variants have been made available over the years; all based on Gunnar’s original 1” pressure microphone design.
